How easy is it to set up an online auction website and what type of software is required?

I want to set up a website to compete with sites like Amazon. com and textbooks100. com, uBid and eBay. How much is it and what types of software would be required?

The Software is free, Linux, BSD, and such.
The servers are what cost the cash. Any box can and is a server, but a dedicated server is a pretty serious piece of hardware that is out of date about three years after it has been powered on.

It is hard to do if you are a beginner.

    However you have 2 options:

1- Get it designed by a reliable company.
    My recommended company: http://www.martstreet.com

    2- Create it yourself.
    My recommended service: http://www.threehosts.com/business/3rd
